Will BP Oil Disaster Affect Heating Oil Costs In The UK?

There will be many of us in the UK who will be wondering how the environment is going to be affected because of the BP oil disaster. It may all be happening a long way away but these days something happening in one part of the world can quickly impact what is happening in another. And for that reason there is understandably some concern that heating oil prices in the UK are going to rise because of the BP disaster. Most of us will be aware of how the bad weather last winter caused a huge demand for oil and with it, increased costs. If this winter we have a bad winter combined with the BP oil disaster how will it affect prices?.

Not everyone realises this fact but when the price of crude oil is high it also means that derivatives such as heating oil will also rise – it makes sense when you think about it. At the moment the oil spill in the US is already affecting crude oil prices and things is sure to get worse if things don’t improve. And with mounting pressure on BP, there is even a risk that the company could collapse resulting in share prices dropping; if this happened, there would be no predicting what would happen to the price of heating oil.

How small the planet we live on really is, has been highlighted by this latest disaster. Hopefully things will be sorted out soon and we won’t be forced to face even higher heating oil prices this year. It was so bad in 2009 that some pensioners were forced to choose between food and heating which is a shameful aspect of our world. So getting this situation rectified as soon as possible is not only essential for the people in America who have been affected but it is just as important to us here who do not want to have to pay higher prices for our heating oil .

Getting the home heated up during winter can be very expensive. Electricity and gas prices are very high and show no signs of coming down any time soon.
