Wind Power Generators

Installing a wind power generator is a great way to make the most of a power source that will never rise above its current price – it’s free – or run out . However, more and more people are learning about how the small, quiet and efficient wind power generators of today offer a real , affordable answer to the problem of rising energy costs .

There are many wind turbines available today, each with its own particular characteristics . Since they were originally introduced, wind turbines have become markedly more versatile and effective . Previously, wind turbines of all configurations had very large blades which needed unusually high winds in order to be rotated , not to mention vast quantities of open space just to be installed . Even dedicated residential-use wind turbines were really just scaled-down adaptations of commercial models , and so they weren’t really optimized for use in residential areas . That these turbines required such high winds meant that they usually had to be mounted on towers in order to be used effectively , and this contributed to the difficulty and costs involved in setting them up . Owners also needed to be certain that the turbines were aligned properly . Tail rudders were sometimes incorporated into the designs to help with the alignment process . Rotating the tail rudders into position also required high winds in virtually all cases, though . Although they performed well when all the conditions were met , these early turbines were not ideal for residential applications because of all of these obstacles .

Modern wind turbines , though, are able to produce power even from light winds, such as those found in most residential areas . Their lighter weight means that they orient more quickly, as well . Vertical axis turbines, which catch the wind at any direction, don’t require orientation at all . The power-to-cost ratio of modern turbines is possibly their most appealing feature . These new wind turbines are ideal for use in residential environments , as they are effective even when mounted on small towers, or even on the roofs of homes . Tall towers , which could add significantly to the overall cost of a wind power generator system, are no longer necessary even for residential users thanks to these modern turbines . These turbines continue to rotate even in light wind, providing a never-ending stream of energy . This is ideal for residential users as well, as they would generally prefer to have enough power all the time rather than a lot of power some of the time . The noise problems that once plagued wind turbines have also been virtually eliminated . Most importantly , they offer homeowners the security of knowing that, as long as the wind keeps blowing , they’ll have power .
