First Aid Kits? Who Needs Them? Wacky Alternatives.
Posted by Nora Wilson on March 9th, 2010 filed in Uncategorized
Thinking about purchasing some first aid kits for your business? Think again! With these 5 great and highly responsible reasons, there won’t be any sort of issue when it comes to keeping your employees safe. We’ve done years of research and put together this anti-first-aid-kit list that’s sure to make our case extremely well!
#5: Injuries — do they even happen anymore?
Really, when do people get hurt? I’ve never heard about it myself, and I think it’s mostly isolated to various TV shows and dramatized re-enactments. If I took a completely unscientific poll, I’m pretty sure most of the people I asked would say they’ve not only never been injured themselves, but don’t even know of someone with a past injury. And I’m sure it’s the same for you. Why buy a first aid kit that will never even be opened?
#4: Can’t we just heal ourselves?
This seems to work in comics and various superhero films, and I’m really starting to think that it works in real life, too. I mean we see it all the time when we cut ourselves or something — the body just heals itself right up! Who needs all this first aid crap, anyway?
#3: What’s really in a first aid kit?
Ah, all that gauze and those crazy acids and disinfectants and all that crap — who needs it? I talked to a paramedic the other day (it was strange though, as he was living on the street and didn’t have an ambulance, just a shopping cart) and he told me it’s all just a big scam, those first aid kits. Speaking the truth!
#2: Get creative with household or office supplies instead!
Now we’re getting creative. Have a bleeding flesh wound? Head over to your supply closet and see what you can use! There’s probably all sorts of crap in there that can easily substitute for a proper first aid kid, right? Am I right? No?
#1: Who wants to be preventative, anyway? Boring!
There’s some old proverb that goes “a stitch in time saves nine”, and I suppose it’s got something to do with prevention saving a ton of money down the road, or something. Frankly, it’s just easier to pay for things later. Sure, having a first aid kit on hand to minimize an injury might be the difference between a tiny hospital bill or an expensive, all-consuming medical-care odyssey, but who really knows?
If you do not agree with everything you have just read – you are probably very right. You should never leave a workplace safety for a chance. First aid kits, blue bandaids, fire safety equipment – it’s not just a waste of money. It is you being responsible for your own health and security.
