Why isn’t anybody talking about fusion reactors?

I am currently doing a project on fusion reactors and found that they are quite amazing. They would pretty much solve all of our energy problems and also global warming issues that stem from electricity production. Why isn't anybody talking about fusion reactors but rather trying to shut the entire coal industry down? Wouldn't it be better to gradually move from the current fossil fuel-based industry to a fusion-based industry? Doing this gradually would decrease the economic impact, but to do this we should start early, right? I mean, sure, fossil fuels are bad, but we shouldn't instantly get rid of the industry because we are sacrificing hundreds of millions of lives and thousands of jobs.
